Mine Evolution

Science North has developed a digital mining game called Mine Evolution in partnership with the Canadian Insitute of Mining, Metallurgy, and Petroleum (CIM). This game is available for free through the Google Play and App stores and is downloadable for PC.

As a part of this project, bilingual lesson plans were developed for teachers to use in the classroom, with pan-Canadian curriculum links. Each lesson features a hands-on activity and a short mining mini game. These lesson plans introduce students to the diversity of careers in the mining industry.

Students will learn about the roles involved in mine construction and will build their own mines, learning about structures and forces along the way.

Students will learn about mining machinery and about the people who design, build, and use these machines. They will then design and build a piece of mining machinery using concepts of simple machines.
