OFFERINGS AT SCIENCE NORTH
Come to Science North for your industry certifications. An excellent opportunity to spend some time at the science centre.
Each certification program is 2 hours in duration unless otherwise noted. Choose any two industry certificates for the full-day option. Choose a single industry certificate for the half-day option. We charge for a minimum of 10 students and can accommodate a maximum of 30 students per session.
- Full-Day Price: $52 per student + HST (two industry certificates)
- Half-Day Price: $30 per student + HST (one industry certificate)
Food is available for purchase on site at Elements or students can bring a lunch. Group lunches can be pre-ordered by contacting us directly. Please note that external food deliveries are not permitted.

VIRTUAL OFFERINGS
Students will earn their certificates virtually through videoconferencing.
Each certification program is 2 hours long unless otherwise noted. Choose any two industry certificates for the full-day option. Choose a single industry certificate for the half-day option. We charge for a minimum of 10 students and can accommodate a maximum of 30 students per session.

Duration: Full Day
Description: In this program, students will learn the basics of app design and can create their own app specific to their sector. They will brainstorm unique ideas, model their design, and have time to build their app, which can then be downloaded onto their own personal devices.

Description: Effective communication is an important skill to succeed in the workforce. This workshop explores the importance of communication and teaches students some of the techniques that will make them successful. Paired with engaging and interactive activities, students will have numerous opportunities to practice their communication skills as part of this workshop.

Duration: 2 hours
Description: This program will give students a better understanding of how concussions occur and the effects they can have on the body and our well-being. Students will learn about the anatomy of the brain, work with accelerometers to gauge how much force causes a concussion and use concussion goggles to simulate their effects.

Description: Customer service is the support you offer your customers that helps them have an easy and enjoyable experience with you. It is also important to internal service-based interactions. This workshop will explore how all customer service is relevant to specific sectors. In lessons paired with interactive scenarios and activities, students will practice their customer service skills and apply them to their sector.

Duration: 2 hours
Description: In an increasingly digital world, this workshop will build students’ digital literacy while providing them with an introduction to various coding skills used in game design. Students will use the platform MakeCode Arcade to create their own game with the guidance of a Science North Bluecoat. For the Science North and Classroom formats, students can play their games on a PiBadge.

Description: In this highly interactive experience, students will have hands-on experience with GPS devices as they explore outdoors. They will learn about geocaching, navigation, and other uses for GPS in several industries.

Description: This workshop will teach students group-based skills such as conflict resolution, building trust and blending strengths to allow them to succeed in a group setting. Filled with hands-on group activities, students will learn the qualities of a highly functional team and apply them in different scenarios.

Description: With environmental concerns on the rise and more and more sectors taking environmental impact into account, knowledge of and practice of habitat restoration is an important skill. Students will learn how broadly applicable habitat restoration is, practice solving problems around habitat restoration in various workplaces, and grow their ecological surveying and testing skills.

Description: Science North has partnered with various partners to bring sector-specific challenges to students. Presented as a pre-recorded video, students will get a real-world problem and be tasked with coming up with a solution. Students will brainstorm, prototype and present their solutions, which will be shared with the sector partners when finished.

Description: This program provides students with hands-on experience that will introduce them to a variety of techniques used in a lab setting, including sterilization techniques, using micropipettes, performing serial dilutions and conduction a bioassay case study.

Description: Leadership is a skill that can be learned and takes practice to improve. This workshop will teach students about various leadership techniques, including influence without authority, and give them a platform to practice their leadership through different activities.

Description: In this program, students will apply Anishinaabek ways of knowing and learning to four math concepts: number sense and measurement, spatial sense and geometry, algebra, and data management. They will create math-based art, design and complete a data-management experiment, and connect all four math principles together through the making of a basket.

Description: This outdoor workshop will teach students basic skills in identifying different species of plants and animals. They will have the opportunity to use tools both digital and physical, focusing on bird calls and behaviours, conifer adaptations, and animal tracks.

Description: Students will learn about the components and natural features of a watershed, how to read topographic maps, land use patterns and effects, and the importance of managing watersheds to ensure healthy environments. There is a simulation component best done outdoors.
