EXPLORE SPACE (GRADE 6)

In this fully immersive space experience, students will explore the solar system. They will learn about the history of space exploration, along with the mathematics and technology that make it all possible. They will also consider the costs and benefits of space exploration missions past, present and future!

UNDER THE SAME STARS—MINWAADIZIWIN (GRADES 4—8)

The First People were scientists and innovators, carefully tracking and moving with the seasons and creating inventions that allowed them to survive in the northern forests of our country. With this close connection to the natural world, the Indigenous People of Canada developed a strong culture, rooted in respect for the environment. This special presentation aims to give students a chance to learn about the Indigenous worldview and sit at the fire with two people who are connected to the traditional ways.

THE SOLAR SYSTEM AND BEYOND (GRADES 9—12)

What lies in outer space beyond our own backyard? Explore space as we travel through our solar system and beyond! We will view our place in space, and discover the history of the universe from the Big Bang to the present day. This 90-minute program is held in the Planetarium at no extra cost. NOTE: This program can only be booked if you have booked the hands-on school program, Spaced Out, the same day.

All Planetarium programs are 50 minutes in length

BACKYARD WILDERNESS 3D

Spanning a seasonal year around a suburban home, the film displays a stunning array of unique wildlife activity, all captured by cameras mounted inside dens and nests, and moving along the forest floor and pond bottom, to show nature and its habitats, in rare intimacy. The human story focuses on a young girl's awakening to the intricacies and joys of nature.

Found on Canada’s remote Pacific coast, it is the last intact temperate rainforest in the world—a place protected by the region’s indigenous people for millennia. OCEANS: OUR BLUE PLANET 3D

Oceans: Our Blue Planet takes us on a global odyssey to discover the largest and least explored habitat on earth. New ocean science and technology has allowed us to go further into the unknown than we ever thought possible. From the coastal shallows to deeper, more mysterious worlds, we reveal the untold stories of the oceans' most astonishing creatures. Dolphins leap for joy through the waves, as we begin our journey into the blue. Our first stop is the coral reefs, where we meet fascinating characters like the ingenious tusk fish that uses a tool to open its food. In the great forests of the sea, we find a cunning octopus who shields herself in an armoury of shells to hide from predators. As we journey through our oceans, we share these extraordinary discoveries and uncover a spectacular world of life beneath the waves.

SECRET OCEAN 3D *

Heading to great depths under the water’s surface, filmmaker Jean-Michel Cousteau explores the ocean's food chain from phytoplankton to the largest animals.

SUPERPOWER DOGS 3D

Join an immersive IMAX® adventure to experience the life-saving superpowers and extraordinary bravery of some of the world’s most amazing dogs. In this inspiring true story, our best friends are also real-life superheroes. Journey around the globe to meet remarkable dogs who save lives and discover the powerful bond they share with their human partners. Follow Halo, a rookie puppy training to join one of the most elite disaster response teams in America. Meet Henry, an avalanche rescue expert in the Canadian Rockies, Reef, a Newfoundland lifeguard with the Italian coastguard, Ricochet, a Californian surf legend helping people with special needs, and the Bloodhound brothers, Tipper & Tony, who are leading the fight to save endangered species in Africa. As we discover the incredible abilities of dogs and the astonishing science behind their superpowers, we’ll never look at our best friends the same way again!

TURTLE ODYSSEY 3D

Sea Turtles are some of Earth’s most ancient and majestic creatures. For over 100 million years, they have traversed the seas, surviving multiple mass extinctions and playing critical roles in maintaining healthy, marine food webs.

Not only do these friendly animals captivate us as they peacefully glide through the ocean, but their personal journeys of survival are equally fascinating.

These remarkable reptiles will traverse thousands of kilometres of open ocean for as long as 50 years and then, from half a world away, migrate, with mysterious precision, back to the very beach where they were born - to lay eggs that are the foundation of the next generation.
