Live virtual professional development for science teachers!

Science North's Science Teacher Seminars are live, virtual professional development sessions designed to help teachers bring engaging, curriculum-linked STEM learning directly into their classrooms. Led by Science North educators, each one-hour seminar models hands-on classroom experiments and provides ready-to-use resources, including handouts, task cards, and material lists, so teachers can confidently recreate the activity with their students.

All programs are 50 minutes in duration, with 10 minutes at the end for questions and answers.

TEACHER PORTAL EXCLUSIVE SEMINAR

GETTING THE MOST OUT OF THE TEACHER PORTAL

• This practical, guided session helps teachers get comfortable using Science North’s Teacher Portal and make the most of the free resources available to support classroom learning and professional development. Participants will be supported as they log in, navigate the portal, and explore key features, such as live monthly science shows, on-demand curriculum-linked STEM workshops, and teacher PD videos and lesson plans. By the end of the session, teachers will know where to find the resources they need and how to use the portal as a go-to tool for bringing engaging science learning into their classrooms.

PRIMARY TEACHER SEMINAR

EARTH IN ACTION

Earth and Space

• This hands-on workshop gives teachers the confidence and ready-to-use resources they need to teach the Primary Earth and Space strand of the Ontario Science and Technology Curriculum. Using simple, easy-to-find materials, teachers will explore activities connected to seasons, air and water, and soils in the environment, leaving them prepared to bring these concepts to life with their students as early as the next day.

JUNIOR TEACHER SEMINAR

CODING WITH MICRO:BIT

Coding / STEM Skills

• This hands-on coding workshop gives teachers the confidence and ready-to-use resources they need to bring Micro:bit into the classroom. Participants will explore the Micro:bit platform through engaging, coding-focused lessons and learn how to connect it to Grades 4–6 science curriculum expectations. Rather than treating coding as a stand-alone unit, this workshop highlights how Micro:bit can be used as a practical tool to deepen student learning, support problem-solving, and make science concepts more interactive.

INTERMEDIATE TEACHER SEMINAR

MATTER IN MOTION

Matter and Energy

• In this hands-on workshop, teachers will explore the properties of matter, from pure substances and mixtures to the behaviour of fluids, through engaging, classroom-ready activities. Participants will build the confidence and resources they need to support Intermediate science learning while helping students make connections between chemistry, physics, and real-world technologies.
