Each visit can include up to two engaging school programs, plus signature Dynamic Earth experiences such as an underground mine tour, Object Theatre, and seasonal Outdoor Science Park free time, giving students an immersive way to explore Dynamic Earth.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
Kindergarten programs are 30 minutes in length. All other programs are 50 minutes unless otherwise stated.

KINDERGARTEN SCHOOL PROGRAMS
- CRATER MAKER

Earth and Space
- 1.85 billion years ago, a meteorite hit Earth and formed the Sudbury Impact Structure. In this program, students will come to understand just how rare an impact of this nature really is while conducting experiments with real meteorites to better understand how they form and how craters result from meteorite impacts.

- Introduce your class to our amazing Earth and its gifts! Learn about our Nature Exchange program, how to collect sustainably, what items can be easily collected in Northern Ontario, and how to trade those items here at Dynamic Earth!

Coding / STEM Skills
- Automation and robotics are at the forefront of new mining techniques. Your students will be introduced to coding and robotics using Ozobots. They will help students trace shapes and designs and inspire learning through hands-on activities!

- BUILD-A-BOT: EXPLORE THE MINE

Coding / STEM Skills
- In this imaginative coding adventure, students will help solve a design challenge: building a robot guide that lights up when it’s dark and follows its owner. Using Cubelets, they’ll learn how to “speak robot” by arranging blocks that sense, think, and act. Along the way, they’ll explore foundational coding concepts through storytelling, creativity, and play.

- What happens when it rains? Where does the water go? From forming clouds to falling rain, students will explore the water cycle and learn how important water is to plants, animals and Turtle Island.

- Robots can be found in our homes, in our schools, and in our mines! In this program, students will learn the basics of coding with a Code a Bluecoat activity before trying their hand at coding the Makeblock Ultimate, a 6 wheeled robot with a controllable claw!

Structures and Mechanisms
- In this program, students will engage with real life examples of simple machines, including screws, pulleys, levers and more! Students will come to understand how all six simple machines can be used in our everyday life, and how different materials are used to make simple machines more efficient.

- Soil is essential for plant life on Earth, which in turn feeds us, provides shelter for animals, and keeps our air clean. Your students will get their hands dirty while exploring the various colours of soil, its composition, and sorting soil by particle sizes. The end goal: understanding why soil is absolutely necessary for the planet.

- Buildings and structures need to stand up to forces and loads we might not think about everyday. Students will learn about different forces and get to design and build their own structure which will be put to the test against different natural forces such as earthquakes and strong winds.

- Your mission is to build Canada’s green future through modern mining! Using the Mine Evolution game, students will learn about social and environmental sustainability then apply what they have learned in a hands on regreening challenge.

Structures and Mechanisms
- Modern day mining safety and structures are designed to support the 1000s of tonnes above our miners' heads. How? Students will learn about shapes in structures seen in nature and in our man made buildings, as well as the structures and forces used in keeping our mines safe. Students will also apply their new knowledge by building and testing mine structures of there own design! These structures will have to hold up to natural and man made forces.

- Solve the mysteries of mineral identification! Minerals are used in our everyday products, from electronics to table salt. Students will learn the characteristics that make these minerals so useful and how to identify our most common minerals.

- From cooling off in the summer to staying warm in the winter, and everything in between, we rely heavily on energy. Through live demonstrations and hands-on activities, students will learn about how different sources of energy such as solar, wind, natural gas, and thermal energy are harnessed and used in our day-to-day lives.

- Play with pumice or obsidian from a volcanic eruption, handle fossils from over 500 million years ago and get ready to rock on at Dynamic Earth. This hands-on workshop lets students discover more about rocks, including putting a rock cycle together and identifying various common types of rocks.

Coding / STEM Skills
- Still think miners are swinging pickaxes and shovels? Not when we have Rugged Robots to do the heavy lifting now! In this activity, students will be coding and controlling makeblock robots, robots on tracks with a multi-jointed arm and claw hand, to preform tasks like moving ore and constructing a miners dry. Students will go home with a new knowledge of coding and emerging technologies in the mining sector.

Students will explore the world of Battery Electric Vehicles and the smart technologies that keep them running safely and efficiently. Using Makeblock Ultimate Robots, they will write code to integrate modern sensors like distance and temperature detectors, programming their robots to respond to real-world data in dynamic ways.

- Is a mining career in the future for some of your students? With how many new and varied jobs exist all to help extract ore, mining careers are everywhere! Explore the 6 stages of a mining operation, and where everyone fits in! We'll introduce your students to real workers across Canada, what they do, and how they can do it too! Students will practice some of these jobs in a timed challenge to see who has what it takes!

- In this highly interactive experience, students will have hands-on experience with GPS devices while exploring outdoors. They will learn about geocaching, navigation, and other uses for GPS in several industries. This program takes place outdoors and students should dress appropriately according to the season.
NOTE: This school program is available as a SHSM program for the following sectors: Agriculture; Energy; Hospitality and Tourism; Mining; Sports. An additional fee will be applied when delivered as a SHSM Program.

Earth and Space
- Welcome to the “Generations” barbershop where Louis is not only the barber, he's also the curator of Sudbury's history. In this 25-minute experience, you will hear about Sudbury as a lumber town 125 years ago, how the railways came through the region at the end of the 19th century and how the region has evolved into a major mining centre and so much more.

ALL GRADES — PLANTING HOPE: A REGREENING STORY

- This film showcases Sudbury's remarkable 40-year transformation, highlighting collaborative efforts to restore the landscape and create a thriving community. It celebrates past achievements, anticipates nature's ongoing healing, and demonstrates how Sudbury's lessons are aiding the global mining industry in environmental sustainability for future generations.

- Join us outdoors in our Science Park! Open seasonally, the park features large-scale exhibits and science-themed interactive structures that students of all ages are sure to enjoy. - Step back in time and experience more than a century of mining history. Students will explore historic tunnels, learn about the challenges faced by early miners, examine traditional mining tools and techniques, and witness live demonstrations that bring Sudbury's mining heritage to life.

- Explore the future of mining through an engaging look at today's industry. Students will discover how innovation, automation, robotics, and sustainability are transforming mining into a safer, smarter, and more environmentally responsible industry. The experience also includes Big Impact, a compelling 10-minute multimedia presentation that tells the story of the meteorite impact that shaped the Sudbury Basin and continues to influence the region's geology, economy, and communities today.

- Roll up your sleeves to cut and polish rocks and minerals in our Lapidary Lab. Guided by our Bluecoats, your group will enjoy a fun and safe experience using the lapidary equipment. In just 60 minutes, your students will create their own polished masterpiece to take home!
Note: Max group size of 20 students (grades 4 and up only)
