GRADES 4 to 6 — MISINFORMATION MAZE
  • What is misinformation? How does it spread? In this workshop we will give your students tools on how to combat misinformation and increase their digital literacy skills!

GRADES 7 to 8 — COMMUNICATING SCIENCE
  • In this program, students will explore science communication as a tool and as a potential career path, using vaccines as a case study. They will learn how to identify an audience, craft an essential message, and how to pursue science communication as a field of learning.

KINDERGARTEN to GRADE 1 — CODE WITH Q
  • Students will discover the world of coding using colours, shapes and patterns! Students will get the chance to dance and help our computer Q code some animals friends!

  • Students will use coding to discover exciting of math and measurement! Students will estimate, test, and count how big different animals sprites are on Scratch Jr., and make code to count for them.

KINDERGARTEN to GRADE 1 — HARVEST MAP
  • What does a rabbit eat? Use code on Scratch Jr. to help a rabbit collect the food it likes, and avoid the food it doesn’t. Count squares to map the path it needs to take.

KINDERGARTEN to GRADE 2 — DECODING STORIES
  • Can you code a story? Students will discover the world of coding and patterns within the stories they know and love, then expand on their knowledge by learning how stories become cartoons through coding.

KINDERGARTEN to 3 — REVEALING CODE
  • When I press the A button, jump! Students will build on their knowledge from the previous two workshops to write simplified code to describe what happens when they play a video game.

GRADES 1 to 3 — FOLD A FROG CODE
  • Can you code without a computer? Students will follow a script of ‘code’ to fold their very own froggy friend, and by doing so, learn about how to give and follow precise instructions, and why that is a foundational skill in coding.

GRADES 2 to 3 — MAKING CODE OUT OF AN ANTHILL
  • Ants are programmed with the knowledge of what their job is, and how to do it. Learn to make your own sprite on Scratch Jr., and make an anthill maze for it to follow with code.

GRADES 3 to 6 — DJ ROBO
  • Students will discover the world of coding by helping DJ Robo bring music to Outer Space! Students will learn about conditional statements as well as scientific and mathematical concepts as they write their own code in this fun workshop!

GRADES 3 to 6 — SAMPLES FROM SPACE
  • In this program, students will use Scratch to code their Sprite to travel through space and collect samples! The game will introduce variables and build on the knowledge of conditional statements and loops.

GRADES 3 to 6 — PART 1: COUNTING MONEY
  • Build your students’ financial literacy by creating a program on Scratch which will help them calculate money sums.

GRADES 3 to 6 — PART 2: MONEY MADNESS
  • Students will code a game all about catching and counting money to reach the right total. They will use operators and loops to do so.

GRADES 3 to 6 — PART 3: GROCERY GAME
  • Using code students will create a game where they compare and combine items of different value to stay within a certain value while having to specifically include “Mission” items.

GRADES 7 to 9 — CODING VIDEO GAMES
  • Students will learn about the MakeCode Arcade game engine, and create a fun Video Game using coordinates and variables. This base game gives students lots of room to grow and create their own masterpieces!

GRADES 7 to 9 — CODING BEYOND THE BLOCKS
  • Students will build on their knowledge from the previous session by adding features to a prebuilt game in MakeCode Arcade. They'll go further in detail with coding practices and add more math elements to the game. Then delve in behind the scenes and see how block coding actually works as they explore python.

GRADES 7 to 9 — VARIABLES IN GAMES
  • Students will use game design in Scratch to learn about what a variable is, and what it means to use them when coding.

GRADES 7 to 9 — CLICKER GAME
  • Clicker games are games that require players to repeatedly click which earns the player in-game currency.  They are simple but oddly addictive games that can be played for hours. We will be coding our own clicker game today and looking at how it uses operators to modify the gameplay.

GRADES 7 to 9 — MULTIPLIERS IN GAMES
  • Multipliers are values used to multiply other numbers. They can be positive or negative values that can be used to modify a variable. Using scratch, students will create their own game that will let them see the effect of multipliers.

GRADES 7 to 10 — TRAFFIC LIGHT 3D
  • All our structures have to be designed before they can be built. In this workshop, students will get an introduction to Tinkercad and to civil engineering by building a 3D model of a streetlight.

GRADES 7 to 10 — TRAFFIC LIGHT MICRO:BIT
  • In this workshop, students will create the code needed to make a traffic light work, using Tinkercad to model the circuitry and MakeCode:microbit blocks to write the code.

GRADES 9 to 10 — MAGIC MICRO:BITS
  • In this coding workshop, students will learn about randomness and how computer programs create random numbers. This will be used to create a simple game as well as a model of particle movement in relation to temperature.

* Micro:Bits are not required to participate in this workshop; however, you can use them if you have access to them.

KINDERGARTEN — DANCING GARDEN: HOW SEEDS HELP PLANTS MOVE
  • How do plants move in the world if they cannot walk? They use different types of seeds to move for them! Students will learn about different types of seeds and how they move in the world. This workshop includes a book, and a movement component as well as a hands-on activity, all related to different seed types.

KINDERGARTEN to GRADE 2 — FOREST GUARDIANS
  • Students will be guided through a series of interactive activities by our staff. They will learn what trees need to grow and flourish, and how trees and forests are well-adapted to their environment. Students will be encouraged to make their own observations when they go outside and explore nature for themselves.

GRADES 1 to 2 — SEASONS OF THE SUN
  • How do the seasons change? Your students will be able to answer that question after this interactive workshop. With dancing, games and stories, your students will learn all about the orbit of the earth around the sun and the four seasons.

GRADES 3 to 4 — HABITATS AND CLASSIFICATION
  • Classification is an organizational tool to help better understand the world around us. It this workshop, we will use classification to understand species and their characteristics. Organizing information can help to reveal patterns, how things evolved, and lead to a general understanding of living things.

GRADE 5 — DISASTER STRUCTURES
  • Your students will be challenged to build a structure that can withstand various natural disasters. Diving into the science of natural disasters students will be able to put on use their engineering and problem-solving skills, to look at innovative ways to protect structures from such forces.

GRADE 6 — FLIGHT
  • Explore and examine the properties of air that make flight possible. Learn how to control the ups and downs of flying to make different creations soar.

GRADE 7 — BIODIVERSITY BAY
  • Balance in an ecosystem is important, but so many factors come into play to keep this balance. Together, we will explore these factors by playing a game, guided by the Bluecoat, to learn about overfishing, endangered species, and economics.

GRADE 8 — SYSTEMS THAT FLOW
  • Systems are all around us, whether they be simple like the process of turning off an alarm, or complex like admission system at a hospital. Regardless of their size, all systems can be visualized using a flowchart.  Students will explore how defined rules in flowchart design can be used to define the steps and sequence of a system.

  • Magnets aren't magic, but they are awesome! Students will explore the properties of magnetism using real tools to learn, observe and explore the world of magnets!

  • Students will work to create their own balloon powered vehicle and learn about the Third Law of Motion in action! "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction."

  • Your students will learn how light travels and how our eyes perceive light. With the help of several activities your students will learn how we see colour, how polarization works and how our eyes helps us see the world around us.

  • Your students will dissect a toy to reveal the gears inside to understand their functions. They will understand how these simple machines are used every day in the world around them.

  • Learn that electrical energy can be transformed into other forms of energy and the transmission of electricity happens through electrical circuits. Use conductive and insulating play dough, batteries, LEDs, motors and switches to explore series and parallel electrical circuits.

  • Explore the difference between chemical and physical reactions using substances commonly found around the home. Learn about the difference between mixtures and pure substances. Can you identify the mystery powder?
