New Kindergarten Curriculum

Science North is developing new video resources, lesson plans, and supporting materials to help Ontario educators implement the updated Kindergarten curriculum.

Launching in early 2026, these inquiry-based lesson plans will highlight foundational concepts and skills that are the gateway to science, technology and engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The series will support teachers as they explore topics like colours, nature, and coding with their students.

While you wait we encourage you to visit our current selection of Kindergarten lesson plans available here:

Upcoming Lesson Plans:

STICKY WATER - JANUARY 2026

Students will use a classic science demo to practice using Prediction and Observation skills, as well as using new scientific language (cohesion, adhesion) or demonstrating the concepts the language describes (water is sticky – to itself, and to other materials)
Companion Video Released in March 2026

COLOUR MIX MAGIC - JANUARY 2026

Students will participate in a variety of hands-on stations to understand basic properties of colour and light – additive colour mixing (more colours of light are reflected, such as mixing coloured light to make white light), subtractive colour mixing (fewer colours on the spectrum are reflected, like when we mix many colours of paint to make a dark, muddy colour), we can separate colours to see which colour components were present (chromatography)
Companion Video Released in March 2026

SUN-SMART INNOVATORS - JANUARY 2026

Students will begin to explore visible and invisible light, highlighting the power of invisible light with UV demonstrations and hands-on problem solving to protect themselves from UV light
Companion Video Released in March 2026

CODING DANCE BOTS - FEBRUARY 2026

Students will practice essential pre-coding skills like giving and following instructions, sequencing, left-to-right reading, and identifying patterns
Companion Video Released in April 2026

NATURE DETECTIVES: COLLECT & COMPARE -FEBRUARY 2026

Students will engage in hands-on data literacy exploration, by collecting data using a variety of techniques, comparing items by sorting and organizing data using a variety of tools, comparing/contrasting items based on identified attributes (large/small, square/circle, green/brown, etc.). They will also practice communicating their findings, engaging in the environment in a respectful and caring way.
